Diocese of Varanasi

"A sign of communion with God and of unity among all men and women. To share the joy of the Gospel with all"

A Message from the Bishop

The Father, merciful and good, sent his only Son into the world so that all may understand His love for us. "He has loved us first" (I Jn 4:19) and has invited us to a life of communion with Him and all his children, having freedom, love and human dignity. The Church lives to carry the fullness of this invitation to all, at all times. Hence, the duty of proclaiming the Joy of the Gospel, and to bear humble witness to the Good News, is essential to the very existence of the Church.

Varanasi Diocese commits itself to "bring the Good News to all strata of humanity, and through its influence transforming humanity from within and making it new" (EN, Pope Paul VI), and thus uniting all as "brothers and sisters". This is its only mission.

— Most Rev. Eugene Joseph, Bishop of Varanasi
